Review of NEO Ruby Queen Green

Today I wanted to share with you a green circle lens from one of NEO Vision's most underrated lines, the Ruby Queen series.  From the time that it debuted last year, I've always been intrigued about diamond patterns because they looked stunning on other models.  I've tried the basic diamond designs like the GEO XTRA Diamond Series and some other funky 3/4 tone ones and found that I was never too fond of any of them because of their huge diameter.  I gave up on them until I found out that NEO Vision released a faceted design in 14.2mm which was perfect for me!

Color & Design:

I love how the Ruby Queen Green looks on my eyes!  The trick in a cleverly designed diamond pattern circle lens is having just the right degrees of opacity in certain "facets" to reflect the underlying eye color, and transparency in others to show off highlights.  This lens does just what I want - it makes my eyes look more illuminated.  The green color is also not too bright and natural enough to pass off for "daily wear."

Enlargement:

As you can tell from this picture, the enlargement effect is quite decent at 14.2mm diameter.  It's definitely large enough to make a difference without going overboard.  No "alien-eyes" with this.  For comparison, these enlarge more than the Dali Brown lenses despite having the same 14.2mm diameter because the Ruby Queen's design reaches the edge of the lens.

Comfort:

NEO Vision lenses are always comfortable for me.  They're more comfortable than GEO lenses.  Used eye drops once during my 8-hour wear.  (For reference, my 5/5 comfort rating for circle goes to NEO Vision monthly lenses and Bausch & Lomb LACELLE)

Hope that this review was informative for those of you who are interested in NEO Vision circle lenses!

Ruby Queen Green can be purchased here on EyeCandy's website for $29.60 plus free worldwide shipping.

Comparing Different Circle Lens Brands

We often get asked questions like "Which brand if the most comfortable?", "Which brand is your favourite?", "Do you prefer A over B?" etc.  So in this blog post I will describe the pros and cons of the circle lenses of the top manufacturers in Korea.

The clear favorite amongst our staff here is NEO Vision brand lenses
Pros:
  • Super thin lenses, as thin as regular monthly clear contacts
  • UV protection
  • High water content (42%+)
  • The thinness and high water content make these lenses incredibly comfortable to wear, even in dry air-conditioned office environments.
  • While they don't have a plethora of designs like other major circle lens manufacturers, their designs are ultra-wearable.  Nothing is too crazy, no super bright neon colours or creepily humongous diameters.  Their designs are ones that almost everyone can wear comfortably without scaring people away.
  • Consistent colouring between different batches.  So if you ever need a single replacement lens, you can be assured that the one you're ordering now will match the other one which you don't need to replace.
  • We receive the fewest number of defective reports of NEO lenses.  The quality is excellent.
  • The final consumer might not take this personally, but NEO Vision company never fails to deliver our shipments on time.  They are always prompt, so we prefer ordering from them.  Good products + good service = good company.
Cons:
  • Limited selection of designs as said above. They only have 14.2mm and (later in 2013) 14.5mm diameters.
  • More expensive than other brands.  But we really feel that the higher price is worth it for the premium quality you get.  Consider this: the least expensive pair of coloured contacts from a popular optical shop like Clearly Contacts costs $20 per vial (not per pair) and lasts for up to 6 months.  So a pair of yearly NEO coloured lenses is inexpensive in comparison

And now onto the world's most popular brand, GEO
Pros:
  • Consistent colouring between different batches.
  • Numerous designs.  They are innovating and releasing new ones all the time.  They also have a variety of diameters to choose from (14.0mm - 15.0mm).  Their designs are always innovative and unique, for example, the Mari Gold lenses from 2012 which were the first circle lenses to incorporate metallic flecks!  All products from their Mimi & Premium line (aka Angelcolor Japan OEM) have never failed to sell like hotcakes when released!
  • Lenses themselves are pretty good quality, generally thin and comfortable
  • Authenticity verification system
  • Inexpensive
Cons:
  • Mixed reviews about the duration of the lenses, as some people say that they are not comfortable after 8 to 9 months of wear. This is because protein deposits can accumulate over time if you don't have enzymatic cleaning protocol. We recommend using the iPool nanosilver cleaner to remove residue at least once a week.
  • Lenses are thicker than those of NEO, so you can wear them for a shorter period of time before there are feelings of tiredness
  • Sadly, GEO is the most counterfeited brand of circle lenses.  Despite the authenticity verification system, you still need to keep your eyes open for fakes.

Dueba (aka G&G) is the longest-established manufacturer of circle lenses.  The features of this brand's products are actually very similar to those of EOS, so for simplicity's sake I will group them together.
Pros:
  • A giant assortment of beautiful designs.  They've got 14.0 - 15.0mm diameters to choose from.  Also, they can make designs in additional colours like sky, turquoise, aqua and silver.
  • Generally comfortable lenses; they seem to be a bit thicker than GEO's.
  • A lot of the cool and hip designs in Japan fashion shops are from these two manufacturers.
Cons:
  • They take forever to manufacture the goods which is why our Dueba & EOS lenses are frequently out of stock (sorry!)

Quickly climbing up the popularity ranks and becoming a new favorite is Vassen (who manufactures our Royal Vision Creamy, Bella 4 Tone and Summer Doll series btw).

Pros:
  • HUGE variety of really stunning colors and patterns.  They've got everything from 14.0mm to 15.0mm. They have a lot of products which are designed in-house, but a lot of them are copied from GEO and Dueba.  For example, they usually take GEO's designs and make them in larger diameters and in more colors like red and pink.
  • Super comfortable, almost as much as NEO Vision's lenses!  They are as thin as NEO Vision's, and water content is pretty good as well.
  • No defective item reports of Vassen lenses so far actually.
  • Love how them come in yearly or half-year formats.
Cons:
  • They also take forever to produce our lenses so thus frequently are out of stock.
  • More expensive than GEO lenses.

I hope that this post has been informative and helpful to those who are just starting out with circle lenses or are already fans of circle lenses and would like to learn more about them!

Comparing NEO Sweet Chocolate Dali Brown, Dali 2 Brown and Dali Premium Brown

NEO Vision has 3 models within its "Dali Brown" circle lens series.  You may be thinking that having 3 lenses, all of which are meant to provide a super natural, almost "invisible" effect, is a bit redundant.  Perhaps it is, but when worn, each design actually produces subtle but appreciable differences.  Our company sent a well-known Chinese blogger, An Ming, to compare these 3 lenses.  Photos below are untouched, un-Photoshopped except for resizing purposes.

The first photo from the upper left corner is NEO Dali Sweet Chocolate Brown, the original best-seller from the series.  This design is the thinnest and the least patterned, consisting only of a brown ring that's about 2mm in width.  Because of this, it covers the tiniest portion of the natural iris, surrounding your eye color with only a brown halo.  The edge of your iris will appear more defined.  The enlargement effect is definitely not as dramatic as the 14.5mm+ lenses, but it's enough to give a cuter and more youthful look.  The one con about the Dali Sweet Chocolate is that, when you look to the extreme side, the lens may not align perfectly with the iris, causing the "halo effect" which will make it obvious that you are wearing circle lenses.  With that aside, the comfort, as with all NEO Vision lenses, is perfect.  I love that NEO Vision makes such thin lenses with high water content so that my eyes aren't tired by the end of the day.

The next photo from the upper right corner is NEO Dali 2 Brown, released in 2011.  This is actually my favorite one of the lot because its dense pattern gives the darkest, richest color.  Even though the diameter is the same (14.2mm) as the other two lenses, the dark color actually makes the eyes look more dolly.  Dark colors actually contribute to making my eyes look larger because they contrast against my skin which is quite pale.  This is what I've picked up from personally trying many different circle lenses; so it might not be the same case with everyone.  The swirl pattern also makes these lenses easier to locate if I've dropped them!

Dali Premium Brown is the latest addition to NEO's Dali Brown line.  The diameter is the same as the other 2, but it actually gives the smallest enlargement because it has the lightest color.  The color is more orangey, cocoa-tinted than the other two.  The edge of the design is the most natural and mimics the real human iris in that it slightly fades outwards (take a mirror and examine your real iris; you'll that there's a thin "buffer" ring between the colored portion and white of your eyes).  For those of you who don't want anyone to know that you are wearing cosmetic lenses, this is definitely for you!

Happy New Year! New Products from NEO Vision Added!

Hello again everyone and happy new year! Hope everyone's 2013 is off to a great start!

We recently got some new colored circle lenses from our favorite brand NEO Vision.  Let's introduce them!

NEO Natural Touch Brown

This is a very natural circle lens design with a unique starburst pattern.  The soft cocoa color matches with most dark brown eye colors.  Compared to the original NEO Vision Sweet Chocolate Dali Brown circle lens which has a thin limbal ring, Natural Touch's design is more like a halo, with a gradient that fades towards the centre of the lens.  This allows the outer edge of the iris to be defined and the brown color to blend with your natural eye color towards the middle.  The thicker design also means that you don't run the risk of getting the "halo effect" when wearing this circle lens.  This lens is available in 0.00 - -8.00.  Natural Touch is perfect for wearing everyday to school or work.  We love it!

NEO Natural Touch Brown is available at EyeCandy's for $29.40 plus free lens case and free worldwide shipping.

NEO Flora Series

Our NEO Flora Series comes in grey, brown, blue, green and violet.  Power is available from plano 0.00 to -8.00 for grey and brown and 0.00 only for the other colors. Here are a few photos of this circle lens.

As you can see, NEO Flora circle lens doesn't provide a drastic color change as the color is quite translucent.  It just adds a nice tint of color to enhance your eyes.  The most unique thing about the design is the clover shaped ring of color.  It's only visible up close.  Whoever's farther than arm's length will see a little colored sparkle in your eyes.  This makes for a natural yet mysterious effect.  NEO Flora is definitely a fashion lens which you may want to wear for a night out.  Our staff fave from this series is the brown and the violet.  The brown's quite natural so it's great as an "everyday" circle lens, especially if you want something livelier than the standard brown ring design.  The violet looks sweet and romantic and would be great for a dinner date!

NEO Flora Series circle lenses are available from Eyecandy's for $29.40 plus free lens case and free worldwide shipping.

So what do you think about these lenses?  Any suggestions for lenses that you would like to see in our store in the future?  Let us know in the comments below!
